SPC Orientation 2020 Had Wonderful End
Character education was embodied in the whole process which also contained innovative elements

From August 31 to September 6, a new batch of about 200 new members were welcomed to Shiu Pong College. During the week-long orientation program, they embarked on a journey to transform from high school students to university students.

What is the difference between a Residential College (RC) and a normal dormitory? It may be a puzzle to many new students. In the “First Lecture of SPC,” Master Zhang explained the meanings of SPC’s motto and mission, and encouraged new students to participate in the various college activities to enhance their soft skills and to cultivate a sense of social responsibility. He hoped that all “Shiu Pongers” will become good citizens with upright character and strong abilities and able to make contribution to the development of Macau society and their country. It brought out the main point that SPC has always insisted on character education. The variety of student activities is only a formality, while the key core is to improve character through experiential learning. In fact, this concept was also reflected in SPC orientation program. Ice-breaking game was intended to promote the courage to express and the ability to listen. Campus Orienteering was designed to enhance teamwork and indomitable spirit. Freshmen Talents Show was meant to exercise cultural appreciation and mutual respect. The whole process of preparation and operation of these activities could even be considered as the training of student leaders, who were expected to improve leadership and service consciousness in this busy period. Many new students have also gained some insights. One year-1 student said:” Our College motto is ‘You are the light of the world’. In the beginning, I didn’t quite understand, but then I heard the introduction from the Master and saw that the Fellows as well as seniors were so eager to help us. They answered freshmen’s questions, even if we repeated them over and over again. I felt very warm in my heart, and I hope I can shine just as much.”

In addition to the traditional contents as mentioned above, SPC has added three new elements in orientation program this year, namely Academic Tea Party, Orientation Points and Webcast of Freshmen Talents Show.

Academic Tea Party is a meaningful event in which upper class students shared their experience of course selection and academic learning with new students to help them adapt to the university life. It matched the direction of “RC 2.0” in university, which requests RC to strengthen academic advising so that students could achieve knowledge development, besides character enhancement. More than 30 seniors and 170 new students attended this tea party. Feedback results showed that it was one of the activities that received the highest satisfaction score.

Moreover, In order to motivate freshmen to participate in the orientation activities, different levels of points were set for each activity. 3 top scorers of whole program and 9 top scorers of single day were finally selected. The Webcast of Freshmen Talents Show is the first attempt of SPC to allow the audience to break through the constraints of the venue. It successfully bridged the gap between year-1 students and seniors by watching the exciting show together.

Although the orientation has come to an end, there is still a long way to go for the students.

紹邦書院迎新活動精彩閉幕

8月31日至9月6日，紹邦書院迎來了新一批約200名新成員。在為期一周的迎新活動中，他們踏上了由高中生轉變為大學生的征途。

書院與普通宿舍有什麼不同，可能是很多新同學的困惑。張本梓院長在“書院第一課”中詳細講解了紹邦書院的院訓與使命，并鼓勵新同學積極參加書院豐富多彩的活動，提升軟實力，培養社會責任感，成爲有德有才、有心有力的好公民，將來為澳門社會和國家的發展做出貢獻。這點出了紹邦書院一直以來堅持的重點，即品格教育。多種多樣的書院活動只是形式，通過這些活動淬煉品格才是關鍵。事實上，這一理念也體現在了迎新系列活動中。破冰遊戲中的勇於表達、懂得傾聽，校園定向中的團隊合作、不屈不撓，新生音樂會中的文化欣賞、互相尊重，甚至於在整個迎新活動籌備運行期間對於高年級同學領袖能力、服務意識的鍛煉，都須臾不離這主題。很多新同學也有所感悟。一位同學表示：“紹邦書院的院訓是，你們是世上的光。一開始我還不是特別理解，後來聽了院長的介紹，又看到導師和學長姐們那麼熱心地幫助我們，不厭其煩地解答我們的問題，哪怕是重複了一遍又一遍的問題，我心裡就覺得很溫暖，我希望自己也能一樣地發光發熱。”

此外，除了上述每年必備的傳統迎新活動，紹邦書院今年還增加了專業茶話會、迎新積分、網絡直播新生音樂會三個新元素。

其中，專業茶話會是由高年級的學長姐們分專業向新生介紹選課經驗、分享學習心得，幫助新生順利適應大學的學習生活。這也呼應了大學“書院2.0”的優化方向，即在品格教育之外，加強對學生的學業輔導，促進其學識的發展。有超過30人次的高年級同學和170人次的新生參與了茶話會。這也成為了新生反饋滿意度最高的活動之一。

迎新積分則是為了動員新生更積極地加入迎新系列活動，因此為每個活動設置了不同級別的分數，並最終決出了3名全程積分王和9名單日積分王。網絡直播新生音樂會是紹邦書院的首次嘗試，讓觀眾的人數突破了場地的限制，通過一起觀看精彩的節目，成功地拉近了新生和高年級同學之間的距離。

迎新活動雖已告一段落，學生的成長之路猶任重而道遠。
