SPC High Table Dinner: An Exploration of Technology and Life

Shiu Pong College successfully held its third High Table Dinner on the evening of 4 March 2016. Prof. Yue Onching, Science Advisor of Innovation and Technology Commission of HKSAR Government, delivered an excellent speech on “The Essential AAA in Personal Growth and Professional Development: Personal Sharing of an Engineer”. About 180 students and 12 guests participated in this High Table Dinner.

Prof. Yue is an expert on Wireless Network and Information Technology. He had worked in The Bell Labs of the United States for 26 years and obtained 18 patents. Besides the vivid introduction of Internet of Things, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, Prof. Yue shared his insights on the philosophy of life as an engineer, which could be summarized as “Appreciate the Constraints”, “Adapt to the Changes” and “Anchor against the Currents”. He encouraged students to face constraints with positive attitude, get ready for rapid development of technology and society, and adhere to a proper value orientation.

Moreover, the wonderful Oboe Performance by Miss Judy Wong Fong Lok, a 4^th year student, with piano accompaniment by Prof. Katrine Wong, a College Fellow of SPC, also brought enjoyment and won warm applauses from the audience.

 

紹邦書院高桌晚宴探討科技與人生

3月4日晚，紹邦書院舉辦了2015/2016學年第三次高桌晚宴。香港特區政府創新科技署科學顧問余安正教授受邀進行了題為“無線網絡工程師之AAA”的精彩演講。約180名學生和12位嘉賓參加了本次高桌晚宴。

余安正教授是無線通訊、信息工程領域的專家，曾在美國著名的貝爾實驗室任職26年，取得了18項專利，研發經驗豐富。除了擔任政府的科學顧問，他現在還是香港中文大學的客座教授。在演講中，他深入淺出地介紹了物聯網、大數據、人工智能等新科技的用途與風險，還向同學們講解了自己作為一個無線工程師的人生感悟，也就是統稱為“3個A”的欣賞約束（Appreciate the Constraints）、適應變化（Adapt to the Changes）和錨抗潮流（Anchor against the Currents）。在余教授看來，人生雖有各種先天和後天的限制，但應該以積極的態度來看待限制，尋找機會，實現突破。而且，面對社會的飛速變化，既要做好心理準備，與時俱進，又要堅守正確的價值體系，不利用科技傷害他人。不少同學表示，余教授的演講內容充實、引人深思，讓他們受益匪淺。

此外，王豐鈺同學在此次高桌晚宴上表演了雙簧管演奏，書院導師王嘉祺教授為之鋼琴伴奏。嘉賓和同學們都陶醉在兩位音樂高手表演的經典曲目中，并在結束時報以熱烈的掌聲。
