Organized by Shiu Pong College(SPC), University of Macau, the first “SPC Overseas Summer Language and Culture Program” was successfully held at Northwest Christian University(NCU) in Eugene, Oregon, from July 6 to July 15, 2015 with the aim of creating opportunities for experiential learning on the part of SPC students who are serious about improving the English language abilities, especially that of speaking and presentation skills.
During the 10-day period, a group of 12 students led by College Fellow Prof. Li Cheuk Wing experientially engaged intensively in English language learning, team and leadership enhancement activities, and also in the American culture through home-stay.
Student Judy expressed that “I’m glad that I had the chance to talk to native speaker and feel the whole English speaking environment at the time I want to improve my English. I’m really thankful.” Another participant, Mandy also remarked that “It is one of the best memories I have since I go to the University of Macau.”
All 12 SPC students had expressed that this is a wonderful journey and this is beneficial to students’ English communication skills and enhanced the understanding of American culture while hoping similar activities can be organized in coming years, all participating students said that the program duration as well as the home-stay should be lengthened.
It is observed that some of the participating students continue to communicate with their American friends in written as well as spoken English on a daily basis.
2015暑期美國語言文化交流營圓滿結束
紹邦生收穫豐富滿載而歸
紹邦書院首次舉辦的「暑期美國語言文化交流營」在上月十五日於美國俄勒岡州尤金市的西北基督教大學（Northwest Christian University）圓滿結束。是次交流營為有志認真提高英語口語和表逹能力的紹邦學生提供一個難能可貴的體驗式學習機會。
十二名紹邦學生由書院導師(College Fellow)李卓榮教授帶領下展開了一連十天的行程。期間參與了英語學習課程，增強團隊和領導力的活動，參加當地多姿多彩的文化活動及通過入住寄宿家庭深入了解美國文化。
十天行程內容豐富別具意義，學生王豐鈺表示：“我很高興可以在一個全英語氛圍的環境下與當地人交流及感受當地文化。我衷心感謝能參加這次交流營來提高我的英語水平”。另一名參加學生熊嘉敏更表示：“這次交流營是我自進入澳大後其中一個最美好的回憶！”
是次美國語言文化交流營不僅提升學生的英語交流能力，還增強他們對美國文化的理解。所有參加者不單表示這是一次精彩的旅程，希望書院在將來繼續舉辦同類型的活動，更具體建議加長交流營和住宿於美國家庭的時間。
