Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the University of Macao: SPC’s seminar on

“Macao People Administering Macao” and “Love the Country, love Macao”

The Shiu Pong College strives to enhance students’ national awareness and belonging. On October 27, 2021, Dr. Henry HO of the Faculty of Law was cordially invited to deliver an online seminar on “Macao people administering Macao” and “Love the country, love Macao”. The seminar attracted about 90 students in total.

Dr. Ho introduced the topic by mentioning the principle of “one country, two systems” under which the people of Macao govern Macao with a high degree of autonomy. He emphasized that the Constitution and the Basic Law is the constitutional basis of Macau Special Administrative Region, and that we should respect the rule of law and act strictly in accordance with the Constitution and the Basic Law. Dr. Ho then talked about the significance of the electoral system to ensure patriots administering Macao. This is a very good thing for the “one country, two systems” to be fully implemented, and can enhance stability and prosperity of Macao. Many students said that the seminar was rich in content and that they gained a lot from it.

Aiming to help boost students’ patriotic spirit and their determination to contribute to national development efforts, SPC has organized a seminar-talk series on a vast range of topics. Topics include: the legitimacy of co-location joint checkpoint scheme and national symbols of China, etc. Besides, SPC members visited the Commemorative Gallery of the Macao Basic Law. These activities have cultivated and nurtured patriotism among the young generation.
